The Green House Project at Eddy Village Green: Revolutionizing Nursing Home Care to Empower Lives

Transformation of a traditional nursing home model – what was our vision for long term care?  How would we change nursing homes to make them better places for elders?  Better places for staff?  Would we want to live in a nursing home?

Numerous industry experts and analysts assert that senior living developers, owners and operators must innovate and disrupt the status quo in order to meet the needs of a rapidly aging society.   Fifteen years ago, the Green House Project introduced the first truly disruptive mode of long-term care – a model that stands today as the catalyst for the movement to transform care for older adults.

In partnership with the Green House Project, we were given the opportunity to make our vision a reality.  Could we be the first in New York State to bring the Green House model to nursing home care? Could we convince our staff, the family members, the elders themselves?  Was it financially sound?  Could the model truly offer a skilled level of quality care? Could we learn a new way of caring?  Could we sustain the model?

The Eddy Village Green has revolutionized long term care. We have created a community where elders and others enjoy excellent quality of life and quality of care, where they, their families and the staff engage in meaningful relationships build on shared decision making, empowerment and respect.
